It differentiates the wealth and social status of Koreans into four types of spoon material: gold (금), silver (은), bronze (동) and soil/dirt (흙). This concept is similar to the English idiom “Born with a silver spoon in the mouth."

BTS were known as “dirt spoon” artists. Their music label, Big Hit Entertainment, was a small company in debt when the group debuted.
