I think 'piirtyvät' might be the participle of 'piirtyä' - which has no Wiktionary entry unfortunately
Joulukuun silmissäni surun jäätämissä. -> I don't get this line at all, especially 'jäätämissä' - perhaps it's 'jäätämässä' (while grief is freezing)? Don't even know if it belongs to the previous line...
I just found "piirtyä" in the dictionary: "to be delineated", "to be outlined". So I think the line is that the moon outlines the gloom, causes gloomy outlines? Or that it itself has a gloomy outline.
Actually, looking back I don't think this "joulukuu" line links up. I think it's something like "The frozen sorrow/grief of December in my eyes". I think there might be a typo in the word too: "jäätämässä" or perhaps "jäätymässä" - "the sorrow of December beginning to freeze in my eyes". I think we need Fary's input on this :)
Yes, it's the passive form of 'piirtää' - outline can mean to draw, sketch... when the moon shines, the forests shadows are drawn distorted into the snow - the part with gloomy is essive again, so I guess it could be 'gloomily'. These Horna guys really have a thing for the essive, they're making heavy use of that case!
I guess you're right, we could use some backup - and I guess also with that other one, the line with the black wings of death. Ah, I somehow feel bad about constantly asking Fary for support and not being able to do something for her in return. We could write her a PM with the lines in questions.
Ahh, and again I forgot to link to the previous line; now the "piirtyä" makes sense to me.
I agree; I wish there were some other Finnish users to take the heat off her a little. I could post some lines to Lang-8 to get feedback from native speakers there.

It is, and it constantly makes me feel like an idiot :D Yep, it makes sense now, but I really wonder why this 'tykönä(mme)' is listed by all the dictionaries as meaning 'to / to someone's' place, while it obviously can also be used like 'mukaan'.
Me too, so you're not alone! Yes, I never saw that explanation anywhere. I guess it can be a little comparable to "bei mir" meaning "by me" and "at my house".
Do you know this article 'Finnish as a world language'? That's a fun read, and it helps to remind that you might be not the only one struggling with the countless (im)possibilities of Finnish Grammar. This site, Lang-8, looks interesting, I read a bit about how things work there - this journal, it sounds like you ought to be at least somewhat advanced in a language, if you are to write a journal in it?
EDIT: I found an alternative translation for the first line of the second stanza: 'lailla' can also mean 'in the way / manner of, like'. I encountered this already also combined with 'wander', so it could also be something like 'in the way of the wolves of the wilderness I wander'. I chose this variant and added a footnote for the summit meaning in the German translation.

Aha, you don't necessarily have to very proficient. I try to write posts in all the languages although I can barely read one Czech sentence without looking for every word in the dictionary; I find it good practice to sit for a long time even if I only manage to write one paragraph in the language, and each of my posts gets some feedback from native speakers. German's still the only language I write long journals in, and just decide what I'm writing as I go along, but for the other languages, I write a small blurb in English and then work on translating that into each language. :)
Ah, yes, I came across "lailla" in another song recently, and was confused about the "summit" before realizing it also meant "in the manner of". In this song, I forgot about it, but I think your suggestion fits better.
Also on Lang-8, I often write my posts in English if I have a grammar question for example. As long as you tag it as Finnish, e.g., Finnish native speakers will see it and help if they understand English.

It's an interesting concept, perhaps I should register on this one, too. It's just that all this internet stuff eats up a lot of time... Btw., I marvel at your quest about learning all these languages! Don't you get confused? I started with Russian once, cause I love that language and its melody, but I really started to confuse Russian and Finnish words! How long have you been up to all those language studies?

I'm disabled, so I'm mostly at home anyway, so I like to devote my time mostly to languages and writing novels. For some reason I don't get mixed up often except in very similar languages, like Czech and Slovenian.
I learned French and German in school, but stopped French to be able to study two sciences and only one language (German) instead of two languages and one science. In university I studied a semester of Russian but dropped it because the oral class and the language class were so out of sync and I found it better to teach myself. Since then I just teach myself. When I was very young, about 10, I was learning some Spanish with Shakira's music, so I just always had a predisposition to take up language; my teachers used to say I am like a sponge soaking up grammar. :) My degree is anatomy, but I still love to devote time to languages.
They teach German in Scottish schools?! I also learned some French in school, and now I'm trying to revive what's left of it. It's great if you're talented for both languages and sciences! Are you already scared off by those Horna songs? I guess they could be offending to some people, but the strange thing is - the meaner the lyrics are, the 'easier' they're to translate - if you can speak of 'easy' at all when it comes to Finnish :D
Only if they have the teachers - French is the usual language, but in my school the French teachers had German families so they ended up teaching German too. The classes were small, of course, and in the final courses, they only ran the course for my twin sister and me! They had some Spanish courses too but at a lower level, but mostly it is French here in Scotland, or some schools are focusing on Gaelic.
Oh, no, not scared off! I enjoy the challenge! I think that the best way to learn in languages is to make mistakes, because the corrections make things clear, and I think it often sticks in your head more. I also like "darker" lyrics; it's the music I tend to listen to and when I write poetry or lyrics myself they tend to be pretty dark. I was a Goth in my teenage years, haha!
Hahaha, yes, I'm not sure Finnish will become "easy" at any time :D People do tell me if I can learn Finnish, I can learn any language; I chose it because it seemed very challenging. I like languages with cases and when I saw Finnish has 15, I thought "Whoa!" But it's been surprising so far - yes, it's difficult, but I'm managing faster than I thought! Other than German, I seem to be focusing mostly on Russian and Finnish.
Like in Germany, they mostly offer French classes, sometimes also Russian and Spanish, but my school had only French.
The lyrics of this band are difficult - sometimes you really notice the difference between songwriters. When Raaka-Aine had a new singer, I found that the lyrics increased in difficulty (means grammatical complexity), so I bet the singers are / were also the songwriters. I don't mind the lyrics, either, listening to Metal myself, I just draw the line when it comes to far right stuff. A Goth learning Spanish from Shakeira :D Or was that prior to your turning to the dark side? Did you publish some of your poems somewhere? I already noticed from your translations ( as far as I can judge that as a non-native English speaker) that you're very gifted with words.
I notice it too in some bands when the singer changes - I'm thinking mainly of Letzte Instanz and Sonic Syndicate just now where the singers are the textwriters and you see a massive difference.
Hehe, I always listened to a wide selection of music even while Goth, but yes, the Shakira was mostly before all that! Aww, thank you. I haven't published them publicly online yet, but I'm considering it.
