Skalinada
Mirno spavaj, dušo moja
Noć je 'ladna, zvizda tvoja sjaja nima
Na sto vrata ja san kuca
Tople riči, mrvu srca nigdi nima
Pismo mala, reci svima
Moj je život pusta stina, mira nima
Miljun pasi ja san proša
Sad se pitan di san doša, sriće nima
Skalinada, skalinada
Tu se penje, tu se pada
To je sudba, to je nada, skalinada
Skalinada, skalinada,
Svaki korak jedna skala,
Svaka skala jedna nada, skalinada
Skalinada, skalinada, skalinada, skalinada
Sudbo moja, ol' ne vidiš
Na toj stazi di me vodiš sunca nima
U đardinu od života
Još mi samo pisma osta, cvića nima
Kad zajeca mandolina
Sve ću skončat čašom vina, nek me nima
Kraj fontane sklopit' oči
Ona tuđu sriću toči, moje nima
Skalinada, skalinada..
The stairs
Sleep tight, my soul
the night is cold and your star lost its shine
I knocked on hundreds of doors
but kind words, a bit of heart are nowhere to be found
My littlesong, tell everyone
my life is a restless lonely rock
I ve tried many pashions
now I wonder what I've come to, there is no happiness to be found
These stairs, these stairs
this is where you climb and fall
They are a step, they're a hope, these stairs
these stairs, these stairs
with every footstep another step
with every step, another hope, these stairs
these stairs, these stairs, these stairs, these stairs
My destiny don't you see
that the road you are taking me on is without sunshine
In the garden of life
the only thing left for me is song, no flowers anywhere
I'll end it all with a glass of wine, let me be gone
Next to the fountain I'll close my eyes
she is now pouring another's happiness, because mine has left me
the stairs, the stairs

I'd say you're a talented translator, Goldyloxx. Keep pluggin' away...
Jako lijep prevod, hvala...
Thank you Kadmos, what a wonderful compliment!!
It seems to me that you satisfy all the requirements of the important job of conveying the musical and poetical expression even of the geniuses such as Zdenko Runjić and Oliver Dragojević, whose work defines the cultural uniqueness and richness of the East Adriatic coast. It's a rather rare occurrence. It would be nice to see all of the numerous songs of these two great figures - and, in time, those of others, too - offered to the world in solid, very accurate yet poetically rendered translations.
Keep up the good work Goldyloxx :)
