Mastica

Mastica

Aquí está nuestra canción
Llega tarde como, de hecho, atrasada estoy yo
Te querría mantener
Así, entre estas notas
estas notas
te retengo amor mío.

Y todavía me retengo por un momento
Quieta, esperando
sin molestarte.
Y me retengo sólo por un momento
Me olvidé de olvidarte.

Mastícame, mastica, mastícame a mí
hasta que te duela la cabeza
ahora sáciate tú.

Domestica, domestícame a mí
"un perro callejero"
en busca de ti.
De ti, de ti, de ti, de ti...

¿Quién amará tus oídos congelados y los dedos agrietados?
¿Quién amará tu sueño ruidoso, tu silencio fastidioso?
¿Quién amará el prurito rojo que tu barba me deja?
¿Quién me amará?
¿Quién nos amará?

Mastícame a mí, hasta que te duela la cabeza
ahora sáciate tú
Domestica, domestícame a mí
"un perro callejero" en busca de ti
de ti, de ti, de ti
en busca de ti, de ti
de ti.

Gracias!

Well, you can translate the Italian verb 'masticare' as 'to think' ;)

Hi! You're welcome. :)

Well, first I have to say that Italian is not my first language but (with all due respect) I don't think “masticare” means “To think”. I looked into it and I couldn't find anything.

I know “Chew me up” sounds funny, but it's not the first crazy song I hear. I'm not saying it's a bad song, no, no, no, just weird and, in fact, I kinda like it, lol.

No problem ;). It is not my native language as well, and I admit I also thought of translating it as 'chew' or even 'bite', but my Italian->Portuguese dictionary says that 'to think' is also one of the meanings this verb can have. That was why I translated it as such into English and Portuguese. I also remember some online sources pointing me in that direction, but I don't recall which ones now.

Ok, ok, I see. I didn't know that. Well, it's something to keep in mind. Thanks

Yes, the verb masticare does also mean to chew over, to brood over (as in to keep thinking over and over, more or less). Not commenting on how to translate it in this particular case. Art.
