Just like we always talked about: Joshua Bassett, who the song is rumored to be about, helped teach Olivia how to drive. In an Instagram Story from January 2020, Olivia talked about getting her first driving experience with Joshua, after they learned that the song they wrote together, “Just for a Moment.” would be used in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series:
"We celebrated and we went to In-N-Out, and I couldn’t drive actually. I was sixteen, but I didn’t have my permit, and so he took me in his car, and we drove around the In-N-Out parking lot. That was my first time driving, so I’ll always remember that."
Olivia has also referenced driving on her unreleased track “Gross”:
"And driving in your car, I feel all grown up"
blonde girl: It’s rumored that Olivia and her co-star on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Joshua Bassett, began dating while filming the show in 2019, and called it quits in early 2020.
In June 2020, Joshua and singer/actress Sabrina Carpenter were spotted together at a protest, sparking rumors that the two of them were dating. Olivia posted the demo version of the song on her Instagram the following month.
Sabrina has blonde hair and is four years older than Olivia. However, in the original lyrics, Olivia referred to the girl as brunette rather than blonde. While Olivia has stated that some lyrics were changed at the recommendation of the song’s producer, Dan Nigro, the reason for that specific change has not been confirmed. There are multiple theories as to why, including “blonde” having less syllables than “brunette,” thus improving the lyrical flow; to emphasize how different the girl is from Olivia, who is a brunette herself; or that Olivia was being intentionally cryptic with the original lyrics.
