Hän
She
She made me laugh, she
made me sing, she
gave me the melody
She - when summer turns to autumn and I see the leaves fall,
I feel the same heartache,
as when she's gone
She made me laugh, she
made me sing, she
gave me the melody
- 1. or "he", see comment
- 2. lit. "good elf", also refers to the "fairy godmother" from fairy tales, also known as "Hyvä Haltiakummi" ("good fairy godmother")
- 3. specifically "iskelmä", a pop song, from German "schlager", which is... where to begin? A sprawling genre of European pop music encompassing love songs and sentimental ballads that was, and still is, massively popular in Finland. The best translation into English might be "oldies", or "classics", or "easy listening". Specifically, Karjalainen might be referring to a number of iskelmä songs, perhaps the 1968 Markku Suominen song "Hän".
- 4. or "jingle", "tinkle". Although "tinkle" in English makes me think she just popped to the toilet for five minutes, which is an interesting re-interpretation of the song but probably not the intended meaning.

The pronoun "hän" is gender-neutral in Finnish and you could translate this as "He", but the specific references to "haltiatar" (female elf) and "kuningatar" (queen) imply that "She" is the most faithful translation.
According to Wikipedia, the original lyrics were in present tense - "She makes me believe" etc. Karjalainen changed them to past tense and the song was transformed from a song of love to a song of sadness.
