Freedom

Oh, Look at the black man, stretching out his arms in despair.
His path is gloomy
His problems never ending
He is looking for a job
There are no opportunities,

Oppression,
Oppression

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need
We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need

We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

Oh, Look at the black man stretching out his arms in despair
His path is gloomy
He is dependent on another
To carry him
Carry him like a bag

Oppression, (You show us off in other lands)
Oppression (We forget who we are)

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need
We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need
We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

This translation doesn't line up with the original. Fix:

Oh, Look at the black man, stretching out his arms in despair.
His path is gloomy
His problems never ending
He is looking for a job
There are no opportunities,

Oppression,
Oppression

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need
We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

Oh, Look at the black man stretching out his arms in despair
He is dependent on another [Pretty sure that should be Yena uthembelek' omunye, yena = he, uthembeleka = is loyal to, omunye = another one.]
To carry him [*amphathe, it would seem]
Carry him like a bag [*amphathise]

Oppression, (You show us off in other lands)
Oppression (We forget ourselves that we are someone)

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need
We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

How long are we to suffer this way
Our children are always in need
We are not yet free,
We are not yet free

Thanks :) This is actually not my translation. This is the translation provided by the artists themselves on their youtube video (as you can see in the source). But you should add your more accurate translation also as a second english translation! It looks good.

Actually I did not modify the translation, I just rearranged it. I did add a translation for the parenthesized sentences, and I pointed out some corrections to be made to the lyrics, namely:

Oh bheka umunt'omnyama ukhangeza izandla
Indlela ayinak' khanya
Yenu uthembele komunye -> Yen' uthembelek' omunye
Ukuba amuphathe -> Ukuba amphathe
Amphatise okwesikhwama -> Amphathise okwesikhwama

Thanks. :)
I think I will keep the translation as is because I don't want to modify the translation made by the artists (even if it is just the formating).

And about the corrections to the lyrics, how do you know, if you don't list Zulu as a language which you know?

I have a dictionary that gives me grammatical info as well. The verb phatisa doesn't seem to exist, phathisa does - or rather, both would be causatives, but phata doesn't exist and phatha does. Plus, I can hear the th in the video. Idk about amuphathe, dictionary says amphathe but video clearly has amuphathe. Yenu uthembele komunye is a line where no word appears to exist, whereas Yen' uthembelek' omunye is one which I can analyze word by word and translate in a way that is essentially the same as the artist. Though I do have to guess -el- is some kind of infix whose meaning I don't really know, but ignoring it I get uthembeka which is in the dictionary. See also michelegorinidecipher.blogspot.com for more info on my methods.

Thanks that makes sense.
Sometimes there are slang words or colloquial ways to say things that are not in the dictionary, so that is why I'm a bit hesitant to change the lyrics which were presumable written down by a native speaker (this of course doesn't mean they couldn't have made mistakes).
Thank you for doing this. Now someone coming here can see both versions, the original one and your corrected one, so hopefully one of the two will be correct :)

Ok. You're right, it's better if it lines up. I will use your fix. Thank you!
