Escaped

From your fable, I was escaping,
By the scorching pages,
I scored my legs till blood,
On the rose trails.

Don't stop now, there is so much evil lurking here!
Ouch!
And so much drama...

The fables cried out after me,
But I didn't hear, I was escaping.
Wildflowers on my dress came to life 1
And I am different now, not as I was before.

Amongst the shivering trees,
Unicorn got lost,
The good fairy wouldn't come now,
And I am not in pain anymore.

Don't stop now, there is so much evil lurking here!
Ouch!
And so much drama...

The fables cried out after me,
But I didn't hear, I was escaping.
Wildflowers came to life on my dress,
And I am different now, not as I was before.

Invent your own!
Invent your own!
Invent your own,
Because it's my story!
Because it's my story!

The fables cried out after me,
But I didn't hear, I was escaping.
Wildflowers came to life on my dress,
And I am different now, not as I was before.

  • 1. according to the author, this symbolises a moment of her catharsis, maturing, rebirth - rejection of illusionary 'ego', accepting self subjectivity and that she is the sole creator of her happiness.

Commenti dell’autore:

The author and singer of the song explained the symbolism in the songs lyrics. The author elucidates that we all have fairy tales created by the society in which we live. These tales dictate to us how we should live out our lives. These tales are not our own. Song's lyrics are built on negative connotations of 'fables'. Typical fairy tales in the lyrics are a model of how the society is built, stories created by strangers, that society perceives as role models. Mavka is a creation from Ukrainian mythology, a half mystic creature that is forced to live in a forest because other people had deemed her to do so as they created the fable. But when her freedoms are restricted, she feels even more eager to escape. She feels uncomfortable and wants to escape to another world, to a new civilisation.

Comment from the translator of the song.

This song has a lot of symbolism and meaning within its lyrics and video. I had deliberately focused on covering the lyrics of the song as it is a translation, but there is a lot more to discover in the video.

The explanations of lyrics, I had found from the official comments from the author of the song about the song lyrics, on youtube. In the comment section, the author goes into great detail explaining the symbolism in the song. A part of which you can see above.

Lastly, this is a beautifully written, performed song with a great depth and meaning to be uncovered. I hope my translation and notes done justice to this song.
