Interessi

In my free time, I love to travel as much as possible. I have many hobbies including skydiving, SCUBA diving, hiking, abseiling, etc. although I hardly get any time to myself these days. I also speak all Frisian dialects as well as a little bit of other languages I haven't been able to list due to the limit of languages allowed to highlight and languages that aren't listed. As I wrote, I love to travel and have lived in some strange places.

Su di me

Just to clarify in case anyone is curious - the reason I have selected three languages in the mother tongue section is because I was raised in a trilingual household where German was also spoken as well as Swedish and English - I also did a large part of my schooling in Berlin and also went to University there. I feel equally comfortable speaking in all three languages as I spent most of my youth in Germany and Great Britain as well as Sweden. I later moved to the US where I studied and briefly worked and then to Sydney, Australia where I currently work in editorial at a daily newspaper and also busy myself with some freelance translation work for several magazines and governmental departments. I am also a songwriter. Although I'm living in Sydney, I still spend a lot of time travelling back and forth to Europe. NOTE ON MY TRANSLATIONS: Pretty much anybody can translate a document word for word with the help of an up-to-date dictionary and Google Translate, am I right? Just copy, paste and there you go... Unlike a lot of the translations here, it is my intention to translate the target language as closely to the language of origin as possible by using equivalents, if any, of slang words and expressions, etc. I try not to make too many literal translations as they can be confusing and ambivalent - English, for example, has certain tenses that do not exist in other languages (for instance, the present continuous - usually used where languages such as German and French use the present with a reference of time, eg. 'ich gehe heute einkaufen' = I'm going shopping today rather than just 'I go shopping today' (this doesn't sound natural at all). Just clarifying what I mean here - there are a few really fastidious people who like to share overcritical opinions despite their own knowledge being somewhat limited. Where the translation changes drastically, I will make a note explaining this but, if anyone has any better translation ideas, please feel free to drop me a line or two. I welcome all feedback.
