Protection
Himaye

The song Protection is about an inner fight. I would say it’s the fight between my more down-to-earth, human, anxious side and the more otherworldly side. It happens quite often in Alcest that these two extremes are actually fighting inside me. It’s really like an inner war, what’s happening sometimes.
In the song, I’m speaking about this acceptance of the darkness and the flaws because we are all human. And I have flaws, I have a dark side … and it’s a part of the spiritual path. You have to live with it and to accept it. And very often, I’m using nature as a way to wrap myself and to protect myself, and in the song, it’s speaking about the waves being like some kind of armor against the metaphoric demons that I can have.
I guess a lot of people are using nature as a way to feel better and as a way to escape from their own anxiety and also from the aggression of the outside world.
