The explanation you gave is very helpful, and I believe it makes more sense than the other would have. Mulțumesc frumos!
Just a note on "dor amintirile". It is a nice play from the songwriter on the word "dor". But here it is the third person plural for "a durea" so on my version I chose to use "hurt" as in the memories hurt. And you are right she does say "alta iubire".
