Cirkus

Circus

Stolen,
every minute with you
Was like a holiday coming to me.
Stage fright and spilled coffee
The evidence is obvious
you've got five minutes for me
between work and family ..

With you life
is like a beautiful showcase with lots of light,
but empty of decoration ..
it has all the new shoes you could ever ask for
and empty promises to be patient,
to give you a little more time ..

Refrain.
This circus ..
It was not even in my bio.
For me you were the most important thing, I for you the hundredth
For my body perfume, for my soul arsenic,
and hiding from myself that I'm addicted ..
To your manly hands
To my feminine torment.
I do not ask for anything,
and do not ask anything,
because long ago I was reconciled,
that we would love anonymously ..

In my book of Genesis it says,
Let her be lucky.
Let her not miss any bird’s milk[1],
Let her have a good time ..
But already it takes too long,
behind the scenes of this secret show ..

For with you life
Is like a beautiful showcase with lots of light,
empty of decoration ..
with all the new shoes that I want,
and empty promises to be patient,
to give you a little more time ..

Refrain .2x

(1) Bird’s milk – a chocolate covered candy with a soft meringue or milk soufflé filling; or something that is a great rarity. See the Wikipedia article at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptasie_mleczko

Pozdrav,
super prijevod, ali mislim da neke dijelove nisi shvatila. Hrvatski ti nije materinji zar ne?
Evo ja ću pokušati doslovno da objasnim, a ti prilagodi kako je to prirodnije na engleskom.. :)
-mi je ko' da praznik dolazi- it was like a holiday coming to me
-očiti su dokazi- are obvious evidence
-da imaš pet minuta za me- that you've got five minutes for me
-U njemu ima kolko hočeš pari novih cipela- there is how many want pairs of new shoes
-Ti meni prvi, a ja tebi stota- For me you are the first one, and I for you the hundredth
-O tvojim muškim rukama- About your men's hands
-o svojim ženskim mukama- about my women's torment
-da nam je ljubav anonimna- that for as love is anonymously
-iza kulisa ova tajna predstava- behind the scenes, this secret show

When you saying bird's milk = describes something that is rare, impossible grandeur and abundance

Nadam se da ti je pomoglo, moj engleski nije materinji :)

Thank you. Yes, you are right, Croatian is not my native language; English is. My husband and I have been very much enjoying listening to pop music from Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, and other countries on radio stations streamed on the internet. :)

You have given me nine comments plus the one about bird's milk.

1) like a holiday coming to me - rather than me going on holiday. In both cases,
her time spent with him is like a holiday. Looking forward to a visit with him would be like looking forward to a holiday coming. It is a more effcient way of saying it; change made.
2) ociti - obvious, rather than oci - eyes. Yes, comment noted & change made.
3) adding "that" doesn't really change the meaning of the line.
4) this was a tricky line to translate; perhaps, "it has all the new shoes that you want," but it's all the new shoes that she (I, in the song) wants. He gets her new shoes, gives her empty promises, tells her he needs more time. While she is giving him everything he wants from her. I probably read more into it than I should have. Will change to read "there are as many pairs of new shoes as I want."
5) Ok, I got the same as you for starters, but wondered whether she really means he is her very first love, while he has had a hundred lovers. Maybe, but I think it also makes sense, and seems consistent with an illicit affair that he is the mmost important thing in her life, number one, first priority, while she figures in as just one of a hundred things that are important to him (with work and family and all). If that is a complete misread of the context (and mistranslation) I can change it.
6) and 7) another tricky pair of lines - men's (multiple men possessive?) - maybe man's or manly or masculine. Same with women's (she is just one woman not several) - so could be woman's, womanly, feminine. Addicted about doesn't make sense, but "o" seems to translate a number of ways "oh, about, of, on, upon." Tvojim is "your," (she says to him), but svojim appears to be "his, or theirs," probably "theirs," more than one person. What I got was "oh, your masculine hands, upon their feminine torments." That doesn't quite make sense either. But I'll change tvojim from "his" to "your."
8) smoothed, this would be "that, for us, love is anonymous," more or less the same idea.
9) I think the "of" is a better connector than the comma when stated in English.

Bird's milk - We don't have that here in the US, either the term or the candy, so it took some effort to figure out what that even meant. Hence, my explanation starts with the candy, for the benefit of English speakers who have never heard of it. But I note that it refers to something rare, and it seems like she's saying that her book of Genesis says "let her get rare things, special treats...." I hope that's conveyed between the translation and the note. If not, definitely in more depth here.

Hvala, and I look forward to conversing with you on future translations. :)
Cheers.

Again great translation, hope this helps :)

U njemu ima kolko hočeš pari novih cipela,: has all the new shoes you could ever ask for
Nije mi bio ni u opisu života: It wasn't even my description of life

(These two are a continuation of the addiction line' so she's saying she's addicted to these)
O tvojim muškim rukama: to your manly arms
o svojim ženskim mukama: to my women pain

nek' se dobro zabavlja..: let her have a good time
