The Albanians began to attack the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija in 1986, more and more ferociously. The song depicts that time and the Albanian atrocities that Serbs had to endure. Some have endured, others had left their homes. If Kerber sings, as I hear them: "Let the songs be sung by our graves.", then I presume that they couldn't have foreseen that Albanians would be destroying the Serbian graveyards, as well as the houses, churches and monasteries.
