Белеет парус одинокий
В тумане моря голубом...
Что ищет он в стране далёкой?
Что кинул он в краю родном?
Играют волны - ветер свищет,
И мачта гнётся и скрипит...
Увы, - он счастия не ищет
И не от счастия бежит!
Под ним струя светлей лазури,
Над ним луч солнца золотой
А он, мятежный, просит бури,
Как будто в бурях есть покой!

The Sail
A lonely sail's white hue does glance
Amidst the gleaming blue sea's foam.
What shall he seek in farway lands?
What did he leave behind back home?
Waves play, the wind ablowing hisses
And the mast bends and creaks. Alas,
He neither seeks nor flees the kisses
Of happiness, whatso shall pass.
Below - the sea with bright blue grace,
Above - the sky with gold rays blest;
But, restlessly, for storms he prays,
As if storms were a place of rest.

Why Future Simple here?
I could use "does", but I already used it in the first line and then in the past tense in the fourth line, so to me it sounds slightly better to opt for a different verb. It seems there is enough room to imagine "the seeking" will continue for quite some time into the future. On the other hand, the word "shall" is not limited to future tense. It can mean obligation and therefore be interpreted more along the lines of "What must he/what does he need to/what is he compelled to seek..."
