Elfenbeinturm: Ein Ort fern der Realität, ohne Kontakt zur Außenwelt, ohne oder mit zu wenig Rückmeldung.

Wissenschaftler befinden sich mit ihren Forschungen manchmal in einem Elfenbeinturm, sind abgehoben und weltfremd - wie auch manche Politiker, die den Kontakt zum Volk verloren haben.

Birebir çevrildiğinde fildişi kulesi anlamına gelse de hayal dünyası, gerçeklikten uzak gibi anlamlara da geliyor. Türkçe'ye de geçmiş bir deyim aslında. Fildişi kulesine çekilmek olarak kullanılıyor ve kendini toplumdan soyutlayan insanlar ya da mizantrop kimseler için söyleniyor.
