Der Stendhal Effekt
Du liegst auf dem Boden wie ´n Kippenstummel,
mit der Schläfe auf dem Boden, es ist ziemlich dunkel,
erst nach einigen Minuten, schätzt du,
erkennst du leidlich die Konturen deiner Hand,
du hast hier nichts zu suchen, du hast Angst,
es ist kalt, du verschränkst die Arme vor dem Unterleib,
setzt dich aufrecht hin, starrst nur in die Dunkelheit,
gewöhnst dich dann an sie, deine Pupillen weiten sich,
und wer du bist, ist nicht wesentlich,
denn der bleibst du nicht,
und ist egal, wo du herkommst, wo du vorher warst
und wenn's wen gibt, der dich liebt,
er ist sowieso nicht da,
und jetzt, nachdem du nicht mehr blind bist,
durchmisst dein Blick das bißchen Raum,
in dem du dich befindest,
es ist quadratisch, jede Wand um die drei Meter lang
und so zwei Meter zwanzig hoch,
so daß du aufrecht stehen kannst,
es scheint vollkomm' leer zu sein,
abgesehen von dir natürlich,
keine Fenster, keine Tür,
die weißen Wände sind so ziemlich alles,
du hörst auch kein Geräusch,
nur deinen gelähmten Atem,
und dein Herz und wie es schlägt
und deine aufrecht steh'nden Haare,
und obwohl nirgendwo 'ne Lichtquelle ist,
wird es mit jedem Augenblick heller, bis du sie erblickst,
pitoreske Schrift, wie mit Lineal gezogen,
schnurg'rade ohne Fehler, leserlich, mit klaren Formen,
beinahe wie in Restaurants die Tageskarten,
nur präziser, detaillierter, Perfektion in schwarzer Farbe,
gut'n Dutzend Zeilen verteilen sich auf vier Wände,
fang' auf der, vor der stehst an
und geh'n links von dir zuende,
heißt: du musst dich um die eig'ne Achse dreh'n,
um sie zu lesen,
ab der Hälfte zwingst du dich,
denn dir ist schwindelig deswegen,
du blinzelst jetzt ein wenig, deine Augen brennen,
schwitzen ein paar Tränen,
dir verschwimmt die Sicht,
die Schrift zieht plötzlich Fäden,
doch du liest, als ging es um dein Leben,
behaarlich, beinah automatisch weiter,
und musst dich zweimal übergeben,
du gehst auf die Knie vor dem letzten Satz,
Reflexartiges Würgen,
just als du den Text beendet hast,
du stützt dich mit den Händen ab,
kriechst auf allen Vieren,
bis deine Glieder schließlich
ihren Dienst vor dir quitieren,
und du wirst ohnmächtig im selben Augenblick,
in dem du wieder aufwachst,
und der Raum ist weg und ausgelöscht,
und dir steht es frei zu gehen
und auch frei zu resignieren,
und ein Teil von dir steht auf -
und ein Teil von dir bleibt liegen

You lie on the ground like a cigarette butt,
with your temple to the ground, it's pretty dark,
only after several minutes, as far as you can tell,
you fairly make out the outlines of your hand,
you don't belong here, you're afraid,
it's cold, you fold your arms infront of your abdomen,
(you) sit up straight, (you) only stare into the darkness,
(you) get accustomed to it, your pupils dilate,
and who you are isn't important 'cause you won't stay that
and it doesn't matter where you come from,
where you've been before
and if there's someone who loves you,
he isn't here anyway,
and now that you aren't blind anymore
your gaze moves around1 the tiny room
in which you are,
it's square-shaped, every wall about 3 meters long
and circa 2.2 meters tall,
so that you can stand upright,
it seems to be completely empty,
except for you of course,
no windows, no door,
the white walls are pretty much everything,
you also don't hear a sound,
only your debilitated breathe,
and your heart and how it beats
and your hair standing on end,

it becomes brighter every moment until you see it3,

(you) crawl on all fours
until your limbs finally
quit their service to you,
and you pass out in the same moment
in which you wake up again,
and the room is gone and erased,

and also free to resign,
and a part of you stands up -
and a part of you remains lying

Listening to that song for the first time also gave me a bit of a standhal effect (albeit not as much as Prezident's song "Mise en Abyme" did - that one still gobsmacks me everytime). I guess the fact that I had a seminar on Eschenbach's Titurel around that time (the story of which also deals with a mysterious writing) added to that.

Thanks for your comment! I've corrected most of the mistakes you mentioned.
"or so you think": I had written " or so you assume", does that have the same connotations? To me, "at least you think so." sounds more like he is wrong with his assumption, but well, I'm no native speaker.
What's the difference between "square-shaped" and "quadratic"?
"print"? I'd assume it's a hand-writing, or at least a font looking like hand-writing.
"schnurgerade" means "as straight as a twine", "very straight". I found "dead straight" as a dictionary translation of "schnurgerade".
"um die eigene Achse drehen" means "to revolve 360°" (=to turn around twice), literally "to spin around ones own axis/center".
