C'est la bête: Here, I think it's meant more in the sense of 'It's the beast who stole...', not to speak of a specific beast.
Tout d'abord j'ai pensé rêver: 'At first I thought I was dreaming'
Et je suis tombé dans ce piège qui se resserre: 'And I've fallen'. Also, although not as literal, how about 'closing in on me' instead of 'tightens'?
Je ne peux me résigner à la servir: '...to serve it'
Sans faillir je me débattrai dans une lutte acharnée: 'Without breaking/giving in, I will...'
Animal au fond je resterai: 'au fond' here means something like...'basically'.
