Echoes

Again, my friend
We were supposed to crawl through together
Let's celebrate the same circumstances where we are together
It doesn't matter to whom we pray

Overlooking the one who wants, curled gaze and finger licks, and who wants
To give a name to every war? If you could you'd probably say

It doesn't matter to whom we pray
Cowering around the only thing we're good at
Tossing firewood at the eternal purgatory
Having what we believe this is for - is for named after us

A dark hallway is being filled with echoes
And surely a dear child is known by many names1
If you could, to whom would you give peace?
It doesn't matter, ask if you want

Overlooking the one who wants, please turn your prejudice upside down over my dead body
Turn me the same way around, flying blindly with my soul and mind, come with me
Overlooking the one who wants, curled gaze and finger licks, and who wants
To give a name to every war, if you could you'd probably say

It doesn't matter to whom we pray
Cowering around the only thing we're good at
Tossing firewood at the eternal purgatory
Having what we believe this is for named after us

  • 1. Danish saying meaning that a child which people like gets a lot of nicknames. This is often used sarcastically when something is put in an undeservingly positive light.

Alright, so this song is strange. It's Danish, but the singer is Norwegian and there is a bit of an accent, so I can't be sure that the song is transcribed correctly, but it also has some strange things about it grammatically, and at points, it can seem more fragmented than it feels like it should be. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose for artistic effect, so I've chosen to try and translate it as literally as possible without making it sound too stiff.
