This dictionary was very helpful for finding the meaning of the phrase "tenir la distance". It does NOT mean "to hold the distance", as a previous translator wrote. It more closely means "to cover the distance" or "to last the course" in reference to an athletic event.

I think it is well translated. As regards the expression "Tenir la distance", the meaning is "to resist; not to yield". The strict translation is "Stay the distance".
