I strive to produce a translation which is as much as possible the mirror image of the original text, in terms of grammar, style (including word choices and sentence structures), and tone, subject, however, to the overriding criteria that the resulting translation must still be in proper English. Though this is typically not an artful way to translate, I have followed this approach so that, if one should so desire, one can follow the song along by looking at the original lyrics and also at the corresponding translation close to word for word, and in so doing can carry over the rhythm and the intonation of the singer's voice, as applied to specific words or groups of words, to the translation.
