Slice
[verse 1]
I'm on the verge/edge
The earth calls me
Quietly, in my ears, tells me to jump
Above my head, the sky
Under my feet a building
It's 3 stories [in height]
"Two in doubts" (doubting my decision)
In a limbo
Between good and bad
Between slumber and wakefulness
Between illusion1 and reality
Between correct and incorrect
I'm a stranger2 to the world
I don't know what's the deal
The power of standing or the courage of jumping?
Hah?
For me, the life is a loop/cycle
You either "cycle with it" (hang with it) or you detach yourself from it
At the most/last you'll be me
Who will have the distance of a push on his toes to his death
I jump
I reach the third floor, it's the resident where a family hang around
The father of the family on the couch
With a cup of tea in front of him
With an ugly blue-colored tanks
From the frames of his glasses, reads the afternoon newspapers
In front of him in the TV, an retarded "ironed" (a suit) makes up lies for the poor people
Where is the mother of the house?
Over there, her thoughts are badly engaged and occupied
I find this out from the silent movements of her lips
In her lifetime, she was worried only for her child
Her child back there in a room
Behind a desk
With a pair of headphones on ears
Writes from freedom for changing the course/ways of a group of people who are dictators genetically
Everybody is looking for controversy3
He is looking for a spark (he/she are the same in Persian)
In pursuit of discovering the secret under the wings of a bird
They saw me momentarily
They became upset, they rushed toward me
I passed by
They reached me, but late (didn't reach me)
[They] reached me late
[They] reached me. Late
[Chorus]
I passed by and went away
From those who are looking for controversy
They fell from this life
You fell
I fell
He/she/it fell
[verse 2]
The gravity kept pulling me down
Or maybe the "expulsion" (of the sky) kept pushing4
I don't know
Whatever it was, my speed kept increasing, I reached a room
Filled with smoke
Filled with silence
A youngster, solved amidst the sounds
Between the characters/alphabet signs
Under surveillance
Object of eavesdrop
But strong and prideful
His friends have left him
And in respect to his enemies, he has no reason to make peace
nor a reason to fight
I was suspended in the air, he suddenly saw me and rushed towards me
I don't say more about his situation and life
It seems some don't intend to understand (they are acting stupid)5
So what's the telling useful for? (what's the point)
Sometimes one should just pass by and leave/go away
Just like me
[Chorus]
who passed by and went away
From those who are looking for controversy
They fell from this life
You fell
I fell
He/she/it fell
[verse 3]
The first floor, there's a lunatic
Hopelessness/despair is the ruler/dominant/governor of the house ("khune" can also mean "country" in Persian)
In front of the mirror, he is standing and is talking to himself
What he says, that I don't know
He just blinks rapidly and it seems he is saying he is "sick of this stupid life"6
The door of the house is half open, now he is standing and is going towards it
What a waste
He is thinking of a fall
He is thinking of a vengeance
From who?
From you
From himself
From me
From all the people of this city/country who don't understand each other
They don't stop him because this is a new kind of controversy
Right now so many of them are standing down here, they are shooting videos of me
They are waiting to see how and when I die
[Chorus]
who passed by and went away
From those who are looking for controversy
They fell from this life
You fell
I fell
He/she/it fell
- 1. His point of view on illusions are described in "Tekrar" and the track after it. Basically, a tool for education if taken seriously. However pointless...
- 2. The same idea is explained in "Gosht" single track.
- 3. Based on the chorus it's safe to say he is falling (or being pushed by the sky or "God" as it is often named "Sky"/"Asemun" in old Persian texts) through time. This floor is his family and childhood and the chorus gives the hint that he is the one running from controversy just like the kid so they might as well be the same. As mentioned in the last verse. This is further reinforced when he reaches the first floor.
- 4. Later explained in the track "Eshtebah" (the mistake, jumping or rapping, the good mistake).
- 5. With the theory of going through his life events by the push of fate, this floor may represent his life before his escape from Iran and the problems Bahram had with the government.
- 6. In the previous track, "Sooz", Bahram is saying he is "sick of this stupid life" so many times as a part of chorus and he was "stepping towards the helix of the stairs, in search for a fall, a vengeance..."
