Mantequita caliente...
(¡Que no se quema!)
Mantequita caliente...
(¡Que no se quema!)
¡Ay, que no se quema!

Ingá (Lullaby)

Hey! Hey! Hey!
Lullaby! 1

Do light up, stove!
Get fried, onion!
For, not once in my life, have I seen a knotted rope... 2

Get fried, onion!
For, not once in my life, have I seen a knotted rope...

My mum and my daddy...
(Be careful with the little child!)
My mum and my daddy...
(Be careful with the little child!)

Do light up, stove!
(It won't get burned!)
Get fried, onion!
(It won't get burned!)
Hot lard...
(It won't get burned!)
Hot lard...
(It won't get burned!)
Ah, it won't get burned!

  • 1. Please, note that ingá is a word of Bantu origin, derivated from ingane (baby) - in the urban Afro-Peruvian dialect, it has evolved into "lullaby".
  • 2. This refers to the common practice of hanging escapee slaves close to the barracks where their fellow slaves lived, as well as the common practice of black slaves committing suicide by hanging to escape their situation.
