- 1. I briefly considered translating this as “TikTok dancing,” but I decided to go literal.
- 2. The phrase “himei wo ageru” generally means “to let out a scream,” but it can also be used to mean someone is shrieking a complaint. I purposely made this line ambiguous as to whether the plated subject is screaming about being placed on the table, or someone else is screaming for whatever reason about what is being served.
- 3. “Shinjou” means “thoughts, emotions, and feelings one holds deeply in their heart.” I went back and forth between the words convictions, sentiments, feelings, and emotions. Sentiments is probably a more perfect translation, but I hear it and think of the more flowery romantic definition before the “strongly held feeling” definition.
- 4. “Kakomarete” literally means “surrounded/enclosed,” with a negative connotation. I could have also translated this as something like “Trapped and surrounded by ‘I love love love love you’s.”
