Парус
Белеет парус одинокий
В тумане моря голубом...
Что ищет он в стране далёкой?
Что кинул он в краю родном?
Играют волны - ветер свищет,
И мачта гнётся и скрипит...
Увы, - он счастия не ищет
И не от счастия бежит!
Под ним струя светлей лазури,
Над ним луч солнца золотой
А он, мятежный, просит бури,
Как будто в бурях есть покой!

The Sail
A lone white sail glows in the ocean,
A blue mist you can see around.
What does it search for? What's its notion?
What has it left in its home town?..
The wind is howling, waves are playing,
The ruthless power bends the mast.
Alas, for happiness it's not praying,
And doesn't run from it, alas!
The sail's above a stream of azure
And under golden rays of sun...
And yet in storms it finds its pleasure,
As if in storms there were the calm.
