Dawn
Greet Freyja at dawn
As the wind plays with the birch leaves4
Hear the spirit of the forest come to life
Watch the elves dance across the water
The dark night dies in the morning light
As the last star slowly fades
The night sleeps in the dawn's depths of5
The red morning sky with golden glow
Greet Freyja at dawn
The young man wanted beauty
Your golden hair caresses the Earth
When you dance in the sunlight
Greet Freyja at dawn
As apple blossom grows on the white mountains
Feel the sun cultivating Earth
New life grows from fire and ice
- 1. I don't know what 'heilsa' means in Norwegian, but I do know it has this meaning in Icelandic. To greet would make sense in this context, but I'm not sure. Also, it looks and sounds similar to the verb 'hilse'. If a native speaker could clarify, that'd be much appreciated!
- 2. An Old Norse goddess associated with love and fertility.
- 3. Literally: "And the bird song to dance to."
- 4. Literally: "Birch leaves sing in the morning breeze."
- 5. Not sure.
