Aria
Aria
I have known, ever since I can remember
That children have, by candlelight,
Seen a shadow here on the wall
And chased it all night.
Tirelessly they have tried
To catch it with all their might
And just when they thought they were about to catch it
It would disappear from their sight.
They can never catch this shadow
In any snares they may lay
This shadow I can liken
To this world and yesterday.

This is a poignant and profound song - people are likened to "children" who, in their immaturity, try to capture and hold onto the day as it passes away into night, uncomprehending that the present is continually moving into the past and cannot be grasped onto - there is nothing static, only flux and change.
