In the summer of eleven hundred and eighty four, king Sverre went to harsh countermeasures,
The killings of Ivar Dape along with his priest and companions made hate grow,
The biggest battle of the civil war was soon about to commence,
Hordes of men in hauberks with swords would end up in manslaught,
Nobody fathomed that Arntor's feat could foster such outcome,
By Haga beach on Fimreite Sverre's fleet of fourteen ships lay,
With the aim of hitting Sogndal town, every farm was bound to burn,

The warrior Arntor willingly went to war to secure his kinsfolk everlasting truce,
The gods by his side, and Magnus with army and ships,
Without equal, a massive onslaught, a reek of death, red the fjord, black, black battle,
Blood feud reigned between Magnus and King Sverre,
Their fight for Norway's throne ended with Magnus' downfall with two thousand men,
Sverre the traitor did not fight, like a hussy he watched the battle from land,

The warrior Arntor willingly went to war, never came back, died for truce,
Day faded into night, his kinsfolk were told,
The gods held Arntor to be a real windir,
To secure his kin eternal truce, the warrior must willingly go to war.

The word "grid", here translated as "truce", can also mean "mercy". It is a norse concept to do with giving mercy to enemies, or to end hostilities. The obsolete English word equivalent is grith.

Windir, as you all probably know, is proto-norse for warrior. I cannot tell for sure, but I would guess that the word may be inspired by the Amla rune stone in Kaupanger, which reads ***iR hlaiwaðaR þar, speculated to mean something like "warrior (or archer) entombed here". The first word may be windiR, but again, this is speculation.
